How do I get emergency dental care?

Dental emergencies can happen at any time. The first step in getting emergency dental care is to give Oshkosh Complete Dentistry a call as soon as possible and let one of our staff members assist you. If you’re suffering from a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 immediately.

Most hospital emergency rooms, mobile ERs, and urgent care clinics aren’t equipped to handle dental emergencies. If you go to one of these establishments, you are unlikely to get treated. Thankfully, at Oshkosh Complete Dentistry, we are here to help by providing pain-relieving emergency dental care. Please call us as soon as possible for urgent assistance.

Dental emergencies are often an indication of bigger dental issues, and an important sign that it’s time to get back into the habit of regularly visiting Dr. Heil. Biannual visits can help prevent future emergencies, saving you time, money, and your natural teeth.

How do I find the best place to get dental work done?

The first step in finding the right place to achieve your oral health goals is to define what you’re looking for. What’s important to you? Typically, this is some combination of welcoming your dental insurance, affordable fees, practice location, dentist credentials, the safety and cleanliness of the office, and the hours of operation.

Additionally, it is important to know what kind of dental care you need. Do you need dentures? A routine check-up and cleaning? Major restorative work? Certain dentists can often be better suited to specific procedures.

Finally, you’ll want to get a good feel for the practice. How do they treat their patients? At Oshkosh Complete Dentistry, Dr. Heil and the team are proud to provide personalized, one-on-one care that treats patients like more than just a set of teeth.

Feel free to read what other patients in Oshkosh are saying about us by reading our Google reviews. How much does a dental check-up & cleaning cost in Oshkosh?

The exact cost of a dental check-up and cleaning can vary depending on a variety of factors, including geography and the oral health of the individual patient.

Any dental check-up and cleaning appointment should begin with a health history as well as a discussion of any concerns the patient may have about their smile. It should also include a thorough examination by Dr. Heil, a professional cleaning, X-rays, and an oral cancer screening.

The average cost of a dental check-up and cleaning in the United States is between $200 and $350. If you have dental insurance, the fees for this type of appointment (including any out-of-pocket co-pays) are negotiated with us directly by your insurance company.

How many dentists are there in Oshkosh?

There are more than 50 dentists located in Oshkosh, WI. At Oshkosh Complete Dentistry, we are proud to be led by Dr. Bob Heil. Dr. Heil has been practicing dentistry for over 20 years. A Wisconsin native, Dr. Heil earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Minnesota, and his undergraduate degree at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN.

Dr. Heil has completed a vast amount of advanced training, including courses in dental sleep medicine and sedation dentistry. He is a current member of the American Dental Association, Wisconsin Dental Association, and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.

What level of education is required to be a dentist?

In the United States, all dentists are required to earn either a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS) degree from one of the nation’s 67 accredited dental schools.

Acceptance into dental school requires the student to earn a bachelor's degree (and typically very high grades) in a major that is heavy in math and science. Dental school is an additional three years, with a combination of both classroom and hands-on education.

Some dentists continue their education by earning one of twelve specializations recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA), which re quire an additional three or more years of dental school training.

Following graduation, all dentists are required to complete a certain number of continuing education hours to maintain their license. In Wisconsin, dentists must earn a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education every two years. A minimum of 25 of those hours must be in clinical dentistry or clinical medicine, and two hours must specifically be on the topic of responsibly prescribing controlled substances. Dentists with sedation permits must also complete two hours that cover sedation and anesthesia.
